Introduction 


If the scanner is offline or you are facing connectivity issues in the scanner software while it is connected to the PC, the problem may be related to USB power management settings. Windows may disable USB ports to save power, which can interrupt the connection. This guide provides step-by-step instructions to resolve USB-related connectivity issues.


Tools Required

  • A PC running Windows 10 or 11

  • Device Manager

  • Administrative privileges to modify system settings



Error Description Symptoms:

  • The scanner appears offline despite being physically connected.

  • The scanner software does not detect the scanner.

  • USB ports may stop responding intermittently.


Occurrence

  • This issue happens when Windows automatically disables USB ports for power saving.


Frequency

  • Occurs randomly but more frequently after system sleep or restart.


Solution

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open Device Manager

    • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.

    • Locate Universal Serial Bus controllers by clicking on the arrow next to it or double-clicking on the text.

       

  2. Select USB Ports

    • Identify your USB 3.0 Port and other available USB Ports.

    • Right-click on each USB port and select Properties.


  3. Disable Power Management for USB Ports

    • In the Properties window, go to the Power Management tab.

    • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

    • Click OK to apply the changes.


  4. Restart the Computer

    • Close all applications and restart your PC.

    • Reconnect the scanner to check if the issue is resolved.


Verification

  • The scanner is recognized by the software without disconnecting.

  • The scanner remains online and functions correctly without interruptions.


Preventive Measures

  • Always keep USB drivers updated.

  • Avoid frequent sleep mode activation while using USB-connected devices.

  • Regularly check power management settings after Windows updates.
