FreeScan UE - Clean your scan with the "Connected Domain" function

This article was created using software version FreeScan UE_v1.2.2.4.

The connected domain function is a quick and easy way to clean the scan.

Clean the scan with “Connected Domain”

If you have scanned an object and you captured noise or stuff around the object like in the picture bellow you can use the "Connected Domain" function.

Mark a small part of the object

First mark an area on the object with one of the selecting tools (square, polygons, lasso, straight line or brush). Here the brush is chosen.

After you select the tool hold "Shift" + left mouse button to mark the object.

Use the “Connected Domain” function to mark the entire object

When you marked an area on the object just click on “Connected Domain” and the software starts to mark all points which are connected to the part. If some areas of the part are missing, you can add manually the missing areas with holding "Shift" + left mouse button.

The connected areas will look in red after clicking on “Connected Domain”.

Use the “Invert” function to select the unnecessary points

When the scanned object is red you use the “Invert” function to select the points you don't need.

The points that are not needed will now look in red.

Delete the unnecessary data

At least you click on "Delete Selected Data" or press simply “DEL” on you keyboard.

At the end, your scan will be cleaned from unnecessary data.

Click “Apply Edit” to save the changes.

Here you can see the whole process.
